There is no scientific data linking a freedom business to health and long life.
Here are some of the ways I think having a freedom business (coach, consultant, infopreneur, freelancer, ecommerce owner) can save your life.
Eating
If you have good position in a good company, you are don’t have much time. You are eating in a hurry. You may be eating lunch at your desk. Or having lots of business lunches. You don’t have the time to eat intentionally.
If you have a freedom business you can work where you want and generally on your time. You can decide and plan to have a healthy meals. You have more time and freedom to eat intentionally – good food on your own time.
Exercise
Big jobs require a lot of time. If you get out of work at 5:00 maybe you will go to the gym before dinner. But most people are getting out later and don’t feel like it working out after work. Or can’t do it because they have obligations.
With a freedom business you set when it’s best for you to exercise. It’s up to you. You have the freedom to schedule when it’s best for you to work out.
Stress
But if you look at the studies about stress what they say is it’s not the stress itself that is the cause of heart disease and so many other illnesses. It’s the lack of control that does the damage. Stress with no control over your environment.
One of the beautiful things about a freedom business is that to a great extent you have control. You may have stress from your work but you have more control over the situation.
Meaning and purpose
Hopefully a sense of purpose and passion, a desire to do what you really want to do, and to make an impact were important factors in what kind of freedom business you started.
That sense of meaning and purpose can make a big difference in your health and your life.
Example:
Think about the famous book by Victor Frankl. Frankl was in a concentration camp during World War II. Many around him were killed. And others died because they just gave up. They had no sense of hope.
Frankl managed to survive. He kept dreaming about life after the war was over. That gave him meaning and purpose to survive.
According to Frankl: “Life is never made unbearable by circumstances, but only by lack of meaning and purpose.”
There was a lot of research done about Frankel and they found that having a sense of meaning – a sense of purpose is not just a tool for survival but also pushing you forward in challenging times.
